Moses, Pharaoh and the plagues told on a steady clap-along beat, with the whole congregation shouting “Let my people go” and a king who says no to everything. Then the beat stops at the blood on the door. A Holy Week skit for children, with one teen or adult narrator.

About the skit
The Narrator teaches the whole congregation one refrain, “Let my people go,” and Pharaoh says no before anyone has asked him anything. Then the children pat, pat, clap through Exodus on a steady beat: bricks and straw, Moses and Aaron marching in to see the king, frogs “toe to head,” lice, flies, hail and locusts. Pharaoh gives in during the frogs and changes his mind the moment they’re gone.
On Passover night the beat slows, the staffs come up, and the chant stops in the middle of a line. The youngest child on stage asks the question the rest of the skit answers, from Exodus 12:13 to 1 Corinthians 5:7, “Christ our passover is sacrificed for us.” Then the beat comes back for one last refrain and a march down the aisle.
Seven to eleven children with a teen or adult Narrator, about 5–6 minutes, and one rehearsal of about 30 minutes. It suits Sunday school, VBS or a Holy Week family night, but not a Good Friday service. The staging notes cover the beat, the freeze, a microphone plan for the smallest voice and a gentle way to tell the last plague to preschoolers.

NARRATOR: Hello, everybody! Our story today comes from the book of Exodus, and we need your help to tell it. Whenever I raise my hand like this (raises one hand high), you shout four words: "Let my people go!" Let's try it.
(The NARRATOR raises a hand.)
ALL: Let my people go!
NARRATOR: Not bad. But the king in this story is very stubborn. Louder!
(The NARRATOR raises a hand.)
ALL: Let my people go!
PHARAOH: (arms folded) No.
NARRATOR: I haven't asked you anything yet.
PHARAOH: Still no.
NARRATOR: (to GOD'S PEOPLE) Okay. Give me a beat.
(GOD'S PEOPLE start the beat: pat, pat, clap, rest. Pat, pat, clap, rest.)
(On "Bricks and straw," GOD'S PEOPLE stop clapping and carry heavy invisible bricks, bent over, for those two lines, then pick up the beat again on "Then God sent Moses.")
NARRATOR: (chanting)
(Long ago in Egypt land,)
(Pharaoh ruled with a heavy hand.)
(Bricks and straw and mud and clay:)
(God's people worked hard every day.)
NARRATOR: (chanting)
(Then God sent Moses to the king,)
(and Aaron, too, to say one thing.)
(They marched right in, they didn't go slow,)
(and said the words that you all know:)
(The NARRATOR raises a hand. MOSES points his staff at PHARAOH.)
ALL: Let my people go!
PHARAOH: (standing, unrolling the decree and reading) I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.
(PHARAOH sits back down and folds his arms.)
NARRATOR: (to the congregation) That's Pharaoh for "no." (to GOD'S PEOPLE) Beat!
