About the skit
“Doubting Thomas.” Two thousand years, and he said one thing. Nobody ever asks about his other nickname, Didymus, the Twin. His friends tell his stories their own way: Peter makes him the gloomy one at Lazarus, and Andrew has him asking for directions at the supper. So Thomas sets the record straight from John 11 and 14, and takes some credit for a verse people cross-stitch on pillows.
Then he gets to the one everybody tells, and admits they tell that one exactly right. He explains why he wouldn’t take his friends’ word for it, and the comedy stops eight days later, behind shut doors, in John 20:24–29. What was said in that room is the line he would like you to quote.
One man, an adult or an older teen, and no props, in five or six minutes. The staging notes cover keeping the impressions fond, the stop before the turn, and reading it from a lectern if your Thomas can’t memorize.

(THOMAS walks to center and faces the congregation. He takes his time. He has clearly been waiting to say this.)
THOMAS: "Doubting Thomas." (beat) Two thousand years. Every Sunday school in the world. (beat) I said one thing.
THOMAS: I already had a nickname, you know. It's right there in the Bible. Didymus. It means "the Twin." (beat) Nobody has ever asked me about my twin. Not once. Everybody asks about the doubting.
THOMAS: So read my lines. All of them. In full. (beat) My friends have been telling my stories for a long time. They tell them their own way.
THOMAS: Here's how Peter tells the one about Lazarus. (big and hearty, doing Peter) "So Lazarus is dead, and Thomas, little ray of sunshine that he is, says, 'Well, boys, we're all going to die!'" (as himself) That is not what I said.
