ScriptureLuke 19:29–35 (KJV)
ThemeJesus sent His disciples for a colt that was tied up, and one sentence set it loose: “The Lord hath need of him.” In this skit the rope is sin, and it’s the Lord’s word, not Wayne trying harder or the disciples pulling, that opens his hooves.

About the skit

Two disciples arrive with exact instructions: find a colt tied, “whereon yet never man sat,” loose him and bring him. They find Wayne. Wayne is polite, comfortable and not going anywhere. His post says SIN (“It came with the post”), he gets snacks here, and he doesn’t really do crowds. So the disciples try the hard way, and pull.

The rope turns out to be a bigger problem than a knot, and no amount of pulling helps. What finally works is the one sentence Jesus told them to say, straight from Luke 19, and Wayne is as surprised as anyone. The picture of sin is simple, and nobody has to explain it.

Made for Sunday school, children’s church or a kids’ moment in the Palm Sunday service, and it can lead right into your palm procession. Four or five children 6–11, or three with a teacher as the owner, and one short walk-through. The staging notes cover setting up the rope so pulling never gets Wayne loose, who reads what from where, and a stand mic at child height.

(WAYNE stands by his post, very comfortable. DISCIPLE ONE and DISCIPLE TWO come in from the side, unroll their scrolls and read.)

DISCIPLE ONE: He said, "Ye shall find a colt tied,"

DISCIPLE TWO: "whereon yet never man sat:"

DISCIPLE ONE: "loose him, and bring him hither."

(They see WAYNE.)

DISCIPLE TWO: (pointing) Colt.

DISCIPLE ONE: Tied.

WAYNE: (friendly) Hi! I'm Wayne.

DISCIPLE ONE: (checking the scroll) It doesn't say Wayne.

WAYNE: It doesn't say not Wayne.

DISCIPLE TWO: (to DISCIPLE ONE) That's fair.

DISCIPLE ONE: Wayne, we're here to loose you.

WAYNE: Oh! No, thank you.

DISCIPLE TWO: (reading the sign) Wayne. Your post says "SIN."

WAYNE: (glancing at it) It came with the post.

DISCIPLE ONE: You can't stay tied to that.

WAYNE: Sure I can. It's comfy. I've been here forever.

DISCIPLE ONE: There'll be big crowds in Jerusalem!

WAYNE: I don't really do crowds.

DISCIPLE TWO: We'll get you snacks!

WAYNE: I get snacks here.
