The Fastest Fast
Leo reads “Join us Wednesday as we fast and pray” in the bulletin and goes for a speed-eating record, until a friend with a Bible tells him how long Jesus fasted in the wilderness. A funny kids’ skit about what fasting really means.

About the skit
Leo has never been slow at anything, especially snack. When the bulletin says the church will fast on Wednesday, he grabs an empty paper plate, and Nico times him: four seconds, a new church record. Then Ruby explains what fasting means, so Leo stands beside a plate of cookies with his hands behind his back while Nico whispers like a golf announcer.
Four minutes later, it’s the fastest fast ever. Then Ava, without looking up from her Bible, mentions that Jesus did a fast too, and Nico works out how long that was in minutes. The story from Matthew 4, Jesus hungry in the wilderness and tempted to turn stones into bread, plays out right beside the snack table.
Two to four children, 7–11, and one ten-minute walk-through; only Leo learns lines. The staging notes cover the two mimes (nobody eats on stage), versions for two or three children, and a word for the teacher on what the skit does and doesn’t say about fasting.

(LEO runs in, waving the bulletin.)
LEO: Guys! Guys! The whole church is doing it!
RUBY: Doing what?
LEO: (reading) "Join us Wednesday as we fast and pray."
NICO: Fast what?
LEO: Fast everything! (He drops the bulletin on the snack table and grabs the empty paper plate.) Nico, time me!
NICO: (holding up the stopwatch, announcer voice) Leo is going for the record!
RUBY: Leo, that's not what it—
NICO: Ready… set… go!
(LEO "eats" from the empty plate as fast as he can: invisible food, both hands, puffed-out cheeks, a lot of chewing. He slams the plate down.)
LEO: Done!
NICO: Four seconds! A new church record!
LEO: (flexing) I'm so good at fasting.
RUBY: Leo. Not that kind of fast.
LEO: It's the same word!
RUBY: Fasting means you don't eat for a while. So you can pray.
LEO: (horrified) On purpose?
RUBY: On purpose.
