About the skit
Rob thinks everybody is looking at them. Jen thinks nobody is. Devin, three weeks into living with them, sits in between with the backpack still on, holding the strap.
Then the pastor reads Matthew 2: Joseph getting up in the night and taking the child and His mother to Egypt. Devin has a question, and Rob has to find the right answer fast. The skit ends with the family reading Luke 2 together, one verse each.
Three actors and three chairs. The staging notes open with a word about foster and adoptive families in your church, and they cover microphones for low voices and casting Devin as a boy or a girl.

(Lights up. ROB and JEN come in and slide into the three chairs with DEVIN between them. They're a few minutes late. JEN hands DEVIN a bulletin. DEVIN sits down with the backpack still on one shoulder, holding the strap.)
JEN: (low) You can take your backpack off, bud.
DEVIN: I'm good.
(ROB looks around the room.)
ROB: (low) Everybody's looking at us.
JEN: Nobody's looking.
ROB: The lady in purple is looking.
JEN: She's smiling.
ROB: That's how they get you.
JEN: Rob.
ROB: (to DEVIN, trying) Small church, huh? Forty people. At our old church there were forty people in the parking lot.
(DEVIN shrugs.)
JEN: (looking down the rows, to ROB) Every family in here has, like, nine grandkids in matching sweaters.
ROB: We could do matching sweaters.
DEVIN: No.
ROB: Noted.
(DEVIN opens the bulletin and reads.)
DEVIN: There's a potluck.
ROB: There's always a potluck.
